YMCA staff member Lana Dionne updates us on to her travels in Costa Rica doing volunteer work:
It’s been quite the journey and the volunteer work has made it all worthwhile. The town of San Ramon (pop 70,000) is nice and cool (humid during the day) but inland, so no water. We do volunteer work 4 days then have 3 days off.
My spanish isn’t great, but I realized that the kids don’t need you to speak English, they just want you to be with them. One group of 4 girls I met today were soooooo darned cute, probably 5-7 years old. They were drawing with chalk on the cement so I joined them and would draw a picture, say of a house, and then I would write beside it ‘house’. The girls would then write beside mine, in Spanish, ‘casita’.
We played all morning and when they came back after their lunch, their 4 little faces were looking through the window of the missionary, calling to me from outside to come and play with them. So super cute!
